For the past three years I’ve been working on a new book, which is now in production and will appear with variant subtitles in the UK and US in summer 2027. Lion Rock: A New History of Hong Kong is what it says it is, a history of Hong Kong, covering the 156 years of British rule, and looking at its legacy. I wanted something modern for the cover, and I’m very pleased with this photograph taken on Kowloon City’s Ngan Tsin Long Road. And yes, there’s an obvious link to China Bound: that’s a Cathay Pacific 747. Here’s the UK cover, coming from John Murray on 1 July 2027. It’s already up for pre-order on Amazon and Waterstones.
